    The Role Responsibilities and Requirements

    The Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing all aspects of the high school boys basketball program. This includes fostering student-athlete growth, promoting sportsmanship, building a competitive program, and aligning with the school's mission and athletic philosophy.

    Program Leadership & Development

    • Provide leadership and direction for the entire boys basketball program (grades 9�12)
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive, year-round program plan
    • Establish program goals, expectations, and culture aligned with school values
    • Coordinate and collaborate with sub-varsity coaches to ensure program consistency

    Coaching & Instruction

    • Plan and conduct effective, developmentally appropriate practices
    • Teach fundamental skills, team concepts, and game strategy
    • Prepare the team for competitions, including scouting and game planning
    • Promote academic success, character development, and accountability among student-athletes

    Student-Athlete Management

    • Build positive relationships with student-athletes
    • Monitor academic progress and support eligibility requirements
    • Model and enforce good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants

    Staff Supervision

    • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate assistant and sub-varsity coaches
    • Facilitate communication and alignment across all levels of the program
    • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide professional feedback

    Communication

    • Maintain clear and consistent communication with players, families, administration, and staff
    • Represent the program positively within the school and community

    Program Operations

    • Organize team schedules, practices, and events in coordination with the Athletic Director
    • Manage equipment, uniforms, and inventory
    • Adhere to all school, conference, and WIAA rules and regulations
    • Assist with budgeting and fundraising efforts as needed

    Community Engagement

    • Promote the program within the school and community
    • Support youth basketball development and feeder programs
    • Encourage multi-sport participation and collaboration with other programs

    Qualifications

    • Previous coaching experience preferred (head coaching experience a plus)
    • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and strategy
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor high school student-athletes
    • Effective communication and organizational skills
    • Must meet all district and Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association coaching requirements
