A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient delivery of care. CMAs are certified professionals trained in both patient care and office operations, playing a key role in outpatient or ambulatory settings such as clinics, medical offices, or urgent care centers. 


Tentative Start Date: May 2026


Note: This role will be onsite in Yankton 3 days a week with travel to Sioux Falls for support two days a week. Mileage payment will be included. This is temporary for the clinic opening. 

Requirements

 

WHAT WILL BE YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES?  


Clinical Duties: 

  • Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration). 
  • Prepare patients for examination or treatment. 
  • Assist physicians with exams and minor procedures. 
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens (e.g., urine, blood). 
  • Perform phlebotomy, administer injections, and conduct EKGs. 
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and exam rooms. 
  • Provide patient education about medications, procedures, or post-care instructions. 
  • Administer vaccinations and medications under supervision. 
  • Monitor inventory and stock medical supplies. 

Administrative Duties: 

  • Schedule appointments and manage calendars. 
  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and greet patients. 
  • Perform check-in and check-out procedures. 
  • Handle medical records, both paper and electronic (EMR/EHR). 
  • Process insurance forms, billing, and coding assistance. 
  • Coordinate referrals and authorizations 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?  

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program. 
  • Current certification from one of the following: 
  • AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) 
  • NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) 
  • NHA (National Healthcareer Association) 
  • AMT (American Medical Technologists) 
  • CPR/BLS certification often required.
