Geophysicist / Senior Associate Scientist II
Environmental Consulting & Technology (ECT) is seeking a motivated Geophysicist to support our growing geophysical services team within the consulting services group. This position is primarily field-focused and will support geophysical investigations for environmental, engineering, and natural resource projects while developing data processing and interpretation skills under senior staff mentorship. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in geophysics, coupled with practical experience in environmental consulting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support and conduct geophysical field investigations using methods such as EM, electrical resistivity (ERT), seismic, magnetics, and GPR
- Assist with daily field operations including equipment setup, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and survey layout adjustments
- Maintain accurate field notes, metadata, and survey documentation in accordance with company standards
- Follow and promote safe work practices and comply with site-specific health and safety requirements
- Download, organize, and perform initial processing of geophysical datasets
- Conduct basic data quality control and prepare maps, profiles, and figures for internal review
- Assist senior staff with preliminary data interpretation and preparation of reports, figures, tables, and technical content
- Support project logistics, equipment planning, and coordination with subcontractors during field activities
- Provide guidance and training to junior staff in field procedures, equipment operation, data collection standards, and basic data processing workflows
- Provide field and technical support for related environmental investigations, including Phase II assessments and remediation projects as needed
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geological Sciences, Physics, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree a plus)
- Minimum 3 years of professional field experience in geophysics, environmental consulting, or related applied work
- Hands-on experience with near-surface geophysical methods (EM, resistivity, seismic, GPR, magnetics)
- Familiarity with geophysical processing and GIS software
Job Essentials
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Willingness to travel frequently for field assignments, including multi-day events
- Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry geophysical equipment (typically 30–50 lbs.)
- Strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and ability to work both independently and within a team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and desire to learn
