Middle School Visual Arts Faculty (Photography & Yearbook)

Full-Time (10-month), Exempt, Category 1

Salary Range: $60,000-$90,000

Reports to: Principal, Grades 4-8

The Middle School Photography & Yearbook Teacher develops students’ photography skills, creative expression, and visual storytelling abilities. The ideal candidate loves working with middle school students and is passionate about helping them recognize that they are God’s workmanship, created by Him, and called to steward their talents well. This role also oversees production of the annual yearbook and manages program resources responsibly.


Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver engaging photography lessons that encourage student choice and creativity.
  • Teach foundational skills including composition, lighting, editing, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Integrate Biblical principles into instruction and classroom culture.
  • Encourage students to grow in creativity, virtue, and stewardship of their God-given gifts.
  • Use positive and respectful classroom management strategies consistent with the school’s discipline philosophy.
  • Assess student learning through projects, observation, and age-appropriate evaluations, focusing on growth and creative development.
  • Print and display student work in the end-of-year art show, showcasing at least one piece from each student.
  • Work collaboratively and humbly as a team member, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to share classroom space.
  • Maintain and care for classroom equipment, studio, and photography resources.
  • Plan and lead photography-related field trips that enrich student learning.
  • Integrate art with character building themes, service opportunities, and community outreach when appropriate.

Yearbook Leadership

  • Oversee the design, editing, and production of the annual school yearbook.
  • Guide students in layout design, photography, caption writing, and meeting deadlines.
  • Coordinate with faculty and administration to gather content and ensure accuracy. This may entail some late afternoons or evenings to capture sports content and performing arts events.
  • Manage program budget, keeping accurate records in accordance with school policy.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment responsibly.
  • Maintain inventory of photography and yearbook materials.

Qualifications

  • Recommended Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Visual Arts, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring middle school students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of digital photography and editing software, including Adobe Photoshop.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A personal commitment to follow Christ and support the school’s statement of faith.
