Job Description

The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems in a chemical manufacturing plant. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment, systems, and machinery, in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Essential Functions:

 Installation and Commissioning:

  • Install, calibrate, and commission electrical and instrumentation equipment such as sensors, controllers, transmitters, motors, and control panels.
  • Ensure proper wiring, conduit installation, and termination of electrical circuits in compliance with electrical codes and plant standards.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical and instrumentation equipment, including control systems, SCADA, PLCs, and instrumentation loops.
  • Diagnose and repair motor control centers (MCCs), PLCs, DCS systems, and other complex control systems.

Calibration and Testing:

  • Calibrate instruments and control systems, ensuring that equipment operates within specifications.
  • Conduct periodic testing of instrumentation and electrical systems, adjusting or repairing as necessary to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

 Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and calibrations performed on electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Update schematics, electrical diagrams, and equipment manuals as needed.
  • Generate work orders and participate in the management of spare parts and inventory.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all plant safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, and electrical safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, and report any hazards or violations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and emergency response drills.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improvements in electrical and instrumentation systems to increase plant efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to implement improvements and resolve recurring issues.

Support Operations:

  • Work closely with plant operators to ensure that electrical and instrumentation systems support safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting process issues that involve electrical or instrumentation components.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations with accuracy
  • Ability to operate mechanical and diaphragm pumps
  • Ability to safely operate pressure washer
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions on various operating procedures
  • Industrial truck (forklift) or equivalent manual material handling equipment experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an E&I Technician in a manufacturing or industrial environment (chemical plant experience preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and process control instrumentation.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, including weekend hours
  • Proficient in English language with reading, writing, and speaking
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred).

Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass a physical screen, respiratory screen, drug screen and background check if job offer is received and accepted
  • Ability to use standard safety equipment and wear all required personal protective equipment (in extreme hot/cold environments)
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairwells
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
