What you’ll do:

Job Summary:    
Eaton Corporation’s Protection, Controls and Solutions Advanced Technology Team (PCS AT) has an opening for an Embedded Firmware Engineering Intern located in Moon Township PA. This position will reside in the Eaton Electrical Sector Americas headquarters building, which houses engineering for multiple Eaton divisions as well as marketing, sales, finance, and R&D (~650 employees). The facility incorporates numerous labs, an onsite fitness center,  ping-pong, employee lounge as well as an on site cafeteria. 

 

With the PCS advanced technology team focus on DC Circuit protection for data centers, the embedded firmware intern will have the opportunity to learn and work alongside other embedded firmware engineers focused on  control technologies and related peripherals as well as communications protocols. In addition to embedded firmware development, additional learning opportunities include laboratory testing, simulation, modeling as well as other pertinent product development activities.   

 

Students will start their full-time internship with Eaton in the Summer of the calendar year.  Pending performance and availability, the intern may be invited back for the following summer, and so on until graduation. Candidates will be matched with projects and assignments that best align with the candidate's interest and skillsets. The students will have access to state of the art laboratories and on-site mentoring as well as a strong network of other local interns hosted within other teams and divisions in the same facility. "    
 

 

Job Responsibilities    
Primary responsibility include: 

  • Writing/developing embedded C/C++ firmware for both RTOS and interrupt loop based systems.
  • Support debugging/testing both at the embedded debugging chip level and system test level.
  • Analyze and document functionality at the module and system levels.
  • Assist with performing electrical, performance and functional testing.   
  • Learn and perform engineering analysis and digital simulation leveraging advanced tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and HiL. 
  • Learn and utilize Design for Six Sigma techniques to drive design optimization.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program with a major in engineering or computer science at an accredited institution 
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of a 2.8 or higher (please don't round)
  • Must be able to work in Pittsburgh, PA full-time for the duration of the internship
  • Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical, Embedded Firmware, Software and Computer Science majors preferred
  • Knowledge of C/C++, C#, python and or MATLAB
