Senior Engineer - Data Engineering

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced SAP BW ABAP Consultant to support a Qlik to SAC & Power BI migration program. The backend system is BW on HANA / BW/4HANA, and the role involves redesigning and implementing transformation logic in BW that is currently handled in Qlik. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring optimized data models, efficient transformations, and high-performance data flows to support reporting in Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

1. BW Data Modeling & Development

• Design and enhance InfoProviders (ADSO, Composite Providers, Open ODS Views).
• Develop and modify BW Transformations, DTPs, and Process Chains.
• Implement complex transformation logic using ABAP routines (Start, End, Field Routines, Expert Routines).
• Migrate and replicate transformation logic currently implemented in Qlik into BW.

2. ABAP Development in BW

• Develop ABAP routines in BW transformations.
• Create and optimize AMDP-based transformations (for BW/4HANA where applicable).
• Write performance-optimized ABAP code compatible with HANA.
• Develop custom programs, function modules, and classes where required.
• Perform data validations and reconciliations between source systems (ECC/S4) and BW.

3. HANA Optimization

• Optimize data models for HANA performance.
• Ensure push-down logic using HANA-optimized techniques.
• Analyze performance using ST05, SQL Monitor, and BW statistics.

4. Migration & Integration

• Analyze existing Qlik transformation logic and convert into BW-compliant logic.
• Work closely with Power BI team to align data structures with reporting requirements.
• Support data extraction from ECC/S4 into BW.
• Enable clean and governed datasets for Power BI consumption.

5. Testing & Validation

• Perform unit testing and integration testing.
• Conduct data reconciliation between BW, Qlik, and Power BI.
• Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and performance benchmarks.
• Support UAT and production deployment.

6. Documentation & Governance

• Prepare technical design documents (TDD).
• Maintain transformation logic documentation.
• Follow naming conventions and development standards.
• Support transport management and production releases.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of SAP BW experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in BW on HANA or BW/4HANA.
• Strong ABAP development skills in BW transformations.
• Experience with:
• ADSO, Composite Providers
• Transformations & DTP
• AMDP (preferred for BW/4HANA)
• Experience migrating reporting logic from Qlik/other BI tools to BW.
• Strong understanding of data reconciliation and validation.
• Performance tuning experience in HANA environment.
• Knowledge of SAP ECC or S/4HANA data structures.

Good to Have

• Experience working in Power BI migration projects.
• Knowledge of Qlik data modeling.
• Experience in Finance/FTE/HR data models.
• Understanding of authorization concepts in BW.
