Job Description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Security Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing all site security functions at Jerritt Canyon, ensuring the protection of personnel, assets, and operations. This role provides strategic oversight of security programs while directly managing third-party security contractors to ensure alignment with site standards, expectations, and operational needs. The Safety Superintendent also reports, via a matrix organizational structure, to the corporate Director of Security to ensure strategic alignment with other business units.

Working closely with site leadership and external partners, the Security Superintendent establishes and maintains a proactive security posture that supports safe and efficient operations, particularly as the site progresses toward a potential restart.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all site security operations, ensuring the protection of personnel, assets, and infrastructure.
  • Manage and provide oversight of third-party security contractors, including performance management, scheduling coordination, and adherence to site policies and expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve site security programs, procedures, and standards.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures for contract security personnel.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of security operations to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure proper staffing levels, training, and readiness to support site operations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all security-related matters, including coordination with site leadership and external agencies.
  • Develop and maintain site access control, surveillance, and incident response protocols.
  • Lead investigations related to security incidents, including theft, unauthorized access, or policy violations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of security activities, incidents, and trends.
  • Support emergency response planning and coordination, including integration with site emergency response teams.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance security effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Manage security-related budgets, contracts, and cost controls.
  • Foster strong working relationships with local law enforcement and regulatory agencies.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8-12+ years of progressive experience in security, law enforcement, or related fields, preferably in mining or heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing third-party security contractors in an operational setting.
  • Experience developing and implementing security programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of access control systems, surveillance technologies, and incident response protocols.
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing security-related incidents.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and influence both direct teams and contractors.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and operational integrity.
