Position Title:    Jordan's Principle Coordinator

Position Type:    Full-Time

Reports to:         Manager, Child & Youth Services

               

Job Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Child & Youth Services, the Jordan’s Principle Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that Haisla Nation children and families receive the services and supports they need in a timely and efficient manner. This role resolves access issues and ensures that no child is denied services due to jurisdictional disputes between federal and provincial governments or other agencies. The Jordan’s Principle Coordinator provides knowledgeable support to children and families with case management, intake, assessment, and coordination to navigate the full range of federal and provincial health, social, and education services and supports.

We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.

Duties & Responsibilities

Service Coordination and Support:

  • Act as the main point of contact for families seeking assistance under Jordan's Principle.
  • Assist families of children with unmet needs in identifying provincial or federal services and support/secure access to quality and culturally appropriate health, education, and social services.
  • Submit requests to Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) on behalf of children and families.
  • Remove barriers to accessing services and resolve service denials, delays or disruptions to complete Jordan’s Principle requests.
  • Identify/develop possible models of service delivery that will improve timely access to services for Haisla Nation children.

Advocacy and Liaison:

  • Promote Jordan’s Principle to families, communities, and service providers.
  • Provide training and information sessions to families, communities, and service providers on how to access services under Jordan’s Principle.
  • Nurture relationships across community-based programs and services, service providers, federal, provincial and territorial programs and services.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of Haisla Nation children in alignment with Jordan's Principle.
  • Liaise with government agencies, non-government organizations, and other service providers to resolve service barriers.
  • Participate in relevant networks, meetings, and conferences to stay informed about developments in policies affecting First Nations children.

Additional Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of all cases, including service requests, actions taken, and outcomes.
  • Track the progress of service delivery and ensure follow-up with families and providers.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of Jordan’s Principle services and make recommendations for program improvements and emerging trends or issues.
  • Support data collection and analytical activities to better understand the scope of children’s needs and nature of service gaps by distributing annual client surveys.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Diploma related to social work, health care services, and/or education.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in child and youth care or social service is an asset.
  • Knowledge of First Nations Culture and working in a First Nation’s community is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with discretion, tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative and productive working relationships with a variety of individuals.
  • Strong problem-solving, advocacy and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to handle complex and emotionally challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to be effective independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).

    Salary Range: $30.35/hr - 37.49/hr
