The Music Department at Stevenson encompasses traditional ensemble classes as well as general music courses. The Stevenson Band Program is a cornerstone of the vibrant Music Department at Stevenson High School. Welcoming students from all across our D125 Consortium, the SHS Band Program includes 6 curricular ensembles, multiple co-curricular Jazz Bands, Small Ensembles, Marching Band and Pep Band. We approach Band as a living tradition, offering our students musical opportunities that are engaging, accessible, inclusive and challenging. These experiences connect them to themselves, to each other, and the broader world of what is possible through music, creativity and community.
The teacher in this position will serve as a part-time teacher in the Music Department Band classroom and co-curricular program. Stevenson’s band directors share conducting responsibilities in a team-teaching arrangement across the six concert band classes, as there are two directors assigned to each band class.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to: Co-teaching three of the curricular band class, Assist with individual performance assessments & auditions, Assist with administrative duties associated with a comprehensive band program and Supervision assignments within the music department.
Band directors assist with our marching band during a two week summer rehearsal in August. Additional stipends may be available for work with one of our co-curricular ensembles.
Applicants should be prepared to present a professional portfolio, which should include: Teaching Artifacts that highlight curriculum, instruction, assessment, planning, concert repertoire...etc, Performance Media that highlight conducting, student performances...etc., and Artifacts that highlight communication and organization (calendars, inventory, emails, newsletter, handbooks…etc.)

Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL) with secondary Music endorsement.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold an ESL endorsement. The ideal candidate would also possess the following traits: Positive and collaborative working style with students, colleagues, administration, and parents, Embrace the Stevenson cultural norm, which values continuous reflection and improvement of programs, teaching & learning, and assessment & growth, Excellent communication skills and organizational skills and proficiency with technologies related to record-keeping and communication with Google platforms
