Job Description

Description

Performs complex clerical, accounting, and administrative work in accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliation, and general administration of fund accounting; processes financial system transactions, assists with cash receipting, business taxes, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a daily cash balance; balances cash on hand against receipts; prepares balance deposits; makes a listing of deposits by accounts; examines receipts for accuracy and completeness; and deposits monies into bank.
  • Accumulates, calculates, posts, balances, and reconciles data for specific accounts; checks against warrant registers; and identifies, traces, and otherwise resolves discrepancies in accordance with establish procedures.
  • Scans deposits, check requests, receiving documents, and other documents into financial information system.
  • Administers the collection of taxes, fees, and other receipts in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • Calls delinquent accounts to collect past due taxes and fees.
  • Creates and adjusts property tax bills for parcels located within City limits; mails and processes incoming payments; and follows-up on uncollected parcels until paid.
  • Answers customer related questions regarding bills generated.
  • Acts as secondary preparer of payroll, payroll taxes, payroll schedules, and preparation of budget payroll information.
  • Cross trains in other Finance areas as assigned.
  • Updates and creates standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains supporting schedules.
  • Assists with annual financial audit preparation.
  • Performs research and records retrieval; assists in compilation and preparation of department records; and compares data and information as needed.
  • Composes, copies, inputs, edits, and maintains a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent with course work in typing, accounting, and data processing; three (3) years of related work experience including experience in accounts receivable, and finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field is preferred.

 

Licenses or Certifications:

None.

 

Special Requirements:

Position requires Background Credit Check due to cash handling responsibilities.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   

  • Knowledge of computers, multi-line telephone systems, and electronic data processing.
  • Knowledge of modem office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.
  • Skill in operating listed computers, multi-line telephone systems, and modern office machines.
  • Skill in researching and organizing data.
  • Skill in using spreadsheet, word processing, database, and calendaring software.
  • Skill in customer service techniques.
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly.
  • Ability to meet and deal with the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers, co-workers, vendors, and other City departments.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work with interruptions.
  • Ability to evaluate and/or assess data/information using established criteria.

 

Physical Demands: 

The work is sedentary work and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:   hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.

 

Work Environment:

The noise level in the office work environment is moderately noisy.

Summary
