Overview
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Foreman, the Maintenance
Mechanic�Fabricator performs maintenance, repair, and fabrication work on district equipment
and facilities.
Principal Duties
? Respond to work orders promptly; identify faults, failures, or hazards
? Troubleshoot issues and perform necessary repairs
? Read and interpret manuals, blueprints, and instructions
? Clean, repair, and install equipment and parts
? Operate hand and power tools safely
? Maintain a clean and organized work area
? Perform fabrication and welding repairs as assigned
? Maintain equipment in the ELSC maintenance shop
? Repair equipment in school industrial technology areas as needed
? Recommend repairs or equipment replacements
? Follow all safety and performance standards
? Perform other duties as assigned
Work Schedule:
Monday�Friday, 7:00 AM � 3:30 PM
(Hours may be adjusted as needed for repairs outside regular work hours)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
? High school diploma or GED
? Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
? Valid Iowa driver's license (acceptable driving record required)
Technical Skills:
? Working knowledge of welding and fabrication (within 6 months)
? General knowledge of MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), including:
? Breakers, transformers, boilers, heat pumps
? Motors, pumps, valves
? Ability to read blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals
? Experience using tools, equipment, and maintenance vehicles
Additional Skills:
? Strong problem-solving abilities
? Ability to work independently and as part of a team
? Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions
? Basic computer skills (email and web-based systems)
? Ability to manage multiple tasks and interruptions
Communication & Reasoning Skills
? Read, analyze, and apply technical documents and regulations
? Communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms
? Maintain effective working relationships with staff and students
? Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats
Physical Requirements
? Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs
? Capable of performing manual labor
? Able to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work on scaffolding
? Work indoors and outdoors in hot and cold conditions
? Good vision (close, color, and focus adjustment)
? Physical ability to safely operate tools and equipment
Compensation and Benefits
? Hourly Rate: $24.15
? Benefits per agreement with Cedar Rapids Custodial & Maintenance Employee
