    POSITION TITLE:      Speech-Language Pathologist

                Department:    Special Education

                Reports To:      Director of Special Services & Related Services Coordinator

     

    SUMMARY:  The purpose of Speech-Language Pathologists is to screen students, diagnose speech-language disorders, and conduct therapy to reduce or eliminate communication difficulties that interfere or affect progress with their educational program.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

      Provide interventions to students and support teachers for students with speech and language concerns in the MTSS Process.

    To provide appropriate diagnostic services and placement for students with speech-language disorders.

    Complete all forms required to enroll a student in the speech therapy program.

    Hold conferences with parents, administrators, and classroom teachers to determine appropriate placement, yearly IEP goals, and reevaluations as needed. 

    Schedule and conduct therapy for students.

    Complete interim and quarterly progress reports for students on your caseload.

    Maintain speech files, therapy logs, and student attendance for compliance purposes.

    Complete all forms and procedures required by the Medicaid Program for eligible students.

    .Attend in-services/conferences to remain current on speech/language issues, maintain CEUs, evidence-based practice, and federal and state due process guidelines.

    Complete the ADEPT mentoring and evaluation process as required.

    Develop and progress towards the successful completion of speech/language yearly professional goals ( Goal-Based Evaluation)

    Provide parents and teachers with information necessary to help students with communication needs to access the curriculum in the academic environment and/or functional skills for them to be successful.

    Perform all other duties and responsibilities designated by the Related Services Coordinator.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervises students and assumes other supervisory duties as assigned by the building principal, Director of Special Services, and or Related Services Coordinator.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge of various Speech-Language Impairments and best practices for supporting students with disabilities. The ability to work well with people; and demonstrate and maintain positive interpersonal skills

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    • SC-LLR as a Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech-Language Pathologist Intern
    • SC Teaching Certificate
    • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution
    • ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence and or Clinical Fellowship Year

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret, professional journals, technical instructions, assessments, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and business correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community in a professional manner.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to score formal and informal assessments that are administered to students. 

     

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
