The Biology Instructor is a full‐time, 9-month salaried position responsible for teaching Anatomy and Physiology and Biology courses. These responsibilities involve developing and implementing course syllabi, achieving student learning outcomes, evaluating student performance, record-keeping, and related activities. Related activities include, but are not limited to, advising, serving on various committees, participating in recruiting and retention efforts, and participating in professional activities and organizations. This faculty position may require teaching assignments at one of the other campuses, (Senatobia or Oxford) with the primary office located at the Desoto campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Anatomy, Physiology, or Biology with a strong emphasis in Anatomy and Physiology or a closely related field; OR a Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, or a closely related field
- Community College teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience teaching online
- Proficiency in using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and other educational technologies
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills required
REPORTS TO: District Director of Natural Science Instruction
CONTRACT TERM: Nine (9) months
HOURS: Typically, 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday), Dependent on the scheduling of labs and proctoring
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach a range of Anatomy and Physiology and Biology courses, potentially in various modalities (e.g. face-to-face, hybrid, online) and other courses as needed and/or qualified to teach
- Prepare, administer, and grade essays, tests, other assignments, and/or program assessment data
- Maintain a record of student attendance as required by the Mississippi Community College Board
- Submit grades, attendance, and outcomes according to the academic calendar
- Manage timely engagement, grading, and communication
- Participate in departmental meetings and committee assignments
- Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and safety protocols, which include cleaning and prepping labs
- Complete 15 hours of professional development each year
- Ability to travel between campus locations
- Establish effective relationships with college administration, faculty, staff, and students.
- Adhere to school policy as set in the Policy and Procedures Manual
- Perform other duties may be assigned by the District Director of Natural Science
