The AV Systems Specialist is a self-motivated technical professional who performs an integrated blend of system design, engineering, installation, integration, troubleshooting, documentation, and maintenance duties for audiovisual and projection systems used in hands-on interactive exhibits and interpretive displays. This role requires equal capability in both light engineering tasks (system planning, parts lists, signal flow diagrams, projection studies) and hands-on technical work (equipment installation, projector alignment, rack integration, field troubleshooting).
In collaboration with Roto designers, engineers, and fabricators, an experienced AV Systems Specialist successfully manages audiovisual components and projection systems through the entire project lifecycle from design development through installation and client handoff.
Essential Functions (including, but are not limited to):
-
Install, integrate, and commission AV systems—including audio, video, control, and networked components—ensuring alignment with project drawings, technical standards, and overall system functionality.
-
Diagnose and resolve system issues using strong signal-flow understanding; provide both on-site and remote support; document root causes and solutions to improve system reliability and knowledge sharing.
-
Implement and support DSP configurations, control systems (e.g., Q-SYS), and networked audio environments (e.g., Dante), including routing, system optimization, and coordination with IT infrastructure.
-
Install and calibrate projection systems, including alignment, blending, and image optimization; support projection mapping and media playback systems using industry tools and platforms (e.g., MadMapper, VIOSO, BrightSign).
-
Support design development through projection studies, system planning, and technical recommendations; develop parts lists and bills of materials aligned with project requirements and design intent.
-
Produce and maintain clear technical documentation including block diagrams, signal flow, system manuals, and as-built records; ensure all project changes and system updates are accurately documented and communicated.
-
Coordinate assigned project tasks, communicate technical updates and risks to project leadership, support installations and service work, and maintain organized, safe, and efficient work environments.
