What You'll Do  

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy equipment on a cable plow crew supporting underground power cable installation. This includes, but is not limited to, dozers, excavators, rippers, tractors, and other related machinery.

This is a high-stakes, physically demanding role that combines heavy equipment operation with technical electrical awareness, as work involves high-voltage underground power cable systems. The position requires a high level of precision, strong safety practices, and effective coordination with crew members to ensure efficient and damage-free installation.

The Equipment Operator is also responsible for conducting pre-operational inspections, maintaining equipment in safe working condition, and promptly reporting any issues or required repairs to management.

 

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:  

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently on construction sites
  • Operate heavy equipment, primarily excavators, for trenching and cable installation
  • Perform precise digging and plowing to required depths, with an understanding of soil classifications
  • Install high-voltage power cables safely and efficiently
  • Coordinate closely with crew members to ensure smooth, damage-free operations around existing utilities
  • Maintain situational awareness and adhere to all safety protocols
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including:
    • Oil changes and greasing
    • Minor repairs and troubleshooting
  • Work collaboratively with the heavy-duty equipment shop for major repairs
  • Maintain and operate support equipment, including:
    • Fuel tidy tanks
    • Hand and small tools
    • Grease guns

Additional Information    

This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks. 

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule rotation of 21 days on 7 days off

Projects can be based across BC, AB, SK, first project will be near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan

Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)  

Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week  

Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent)
