Job Description:

The School of Professional Studies seeks experienced industry professionals to serve as part-time Lecturer for a graduate-level course in Financial Securities Analysis and Portfolio Management. Lecturers are the primary instructors for courses and an invaluable component of the faculty community. This course introduces students to the study of analyzing information to evaluate financial securities and design investment strategies. This course provides an intensive introduction to major topics in investments and covers topics in theoretical foundation, valuation models and analysis of major asset classes, and the practice of active portfolio management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead class lectures, instructional activities, and classroom discussions. Attend all class sessions.

  • Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries.

  • Evaluate and grade student work and assessments.

  • Conduct office hours.

Qualifications:

Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty possessing outstanding academic training and a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting. 

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Finance or a related field

  • Professional experience related to financial securities analysis and portfolio management

  • Proficiency in Python; e.g. using libraries for data manipulation, statistical analysis, machine learning implementations, and data visualization.  

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of related professional experience.

  • 2+ years of University teaching experience, ideally at the graduate level.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject

Additional Information:

Salary range: $11,000 - $13,000 per semester long course
