Job Description

Position Overview

The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is currently seeking a Project Coordinator to support our team. The Project Coordinator develops and executes tasks for deliverables on a variety of environmental health topics including but not limited to student internship programs, workforce development, vector-borne disease, food safety, lead, water quality, air quality, Health in All Policies (HiAP), land reuse, preparedness, and climate change. This position will have a significant focus in the area of student internships. The Project Coordinator also represents the association in partnerships, meetings, and events. The position will support the integration of multiple lanes of environmental health programmatic efforts into a single, harmonized association-wide effort that meets the needs of our funders and members. This is a fast-paced, highly visible position within the organization and across the nation.

Occasional travel will be required for this exciting position; approximately 2-4 trips per year. This includes opportunities to attend and present on environmental topics at conferences, meet with our funders to talk about projects and strategies, and provide training to support state, tribal, local, and territorial jurisdictions. A passport may also be required. Intermittent work on nights and weekends may be required.


Duties & Responsibilities 

Project Coordination

  • Manages project timeline, executes tasks, manages associated costs, and scope of work for assigned projects
  • Coordinates and facilitates in-person or virtual trainings and/or educational sessions
  • Prepares and compiles results for progress and final reports for funding agencies
  • Facilitates conference calls, meetings, committees, work groups, and focus groups
  • Communicates with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and other project participants as needed

Project and Program Development

  • Assists with development of proposals for projects, including content, budget, and budget narratives
  • Coordinates program committees and development of resources and education
  • Builds relationships and partnerships with universities, agencies, and subject matter experts
  • Develops and publishes articles, columns, or chapters for applicable publications
  • Participates in webinars and other continuing education opportunities
  • Develops content for topic area(s) on website and by other means
  • Represent NEHA in partnerships, meetings, conferences, and events
  • Assists with identifying topics and speakers for webinars and the annual education conference
  • Manages updates for department webpages and serves as liaison to the website team
  • Provides horizon scans, literature reviews, and research as needed
  • Develops presentations and shares findings with membership, funders, and the public

Data Evaluation

  • Assist with the development and administration of surveys
  • Provide technical assistance on data collection and evaluation activities for other programs
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize evaluation data across programs and create and maintain data as requested, including report writing
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs. or less
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment
  • Ability to read required reports and computer screen
  • Hearing required to interact with management and associates

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in Biology, Environmental Health, Public Health, or other Science related degree
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Teams required
  • Excellent writing and correspondence skills required
  • Strong project coordination/management skills required
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills required
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and pivot when priorities change
  • Experience with non-profits or government a plus
  • Grant writing/management skills preferred
  • Experience in public health/environmental health preferred

 What we Offer

The annual salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000 depending on education, credentials, and experience.
