Job Description

Job purpose

Support General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel with all legal functions across the platform as well as serve as liaison to business units on wide range of legal questions relating to multifamily real estate business.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various types of legal documents and commercial contracts, including financing arrangements, correspondent agreements, leases, professional services contracts, employment agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Provide responsive on-going legal support for originating and servicing real estate finance products offered by the Company.
  • Assist with closing CLOs and securitizations.
  • Advise on loan level legal matters such as loan document interpretations, review of entity organizational structures, drafting of default notices and borrower correspondence, and creation of form documents and templates.
  • Support the Capital Markets group in negotiating trade confirmations with investment bank counterparties.
  • Assist with negotiating warehouse and repurchase agreements.
  • All other legal tasks assigned.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited school of law
  • 3-5 years’ experience in either general corporate (governance, HR, licensing, contracts), investment management, investment sales, real estate or commercial finance transactional practice
  • Comfortable with seeking direction where necessary but also work independently where appropriate
  • Desire to learn wide array of legal practice areas within a multifamily real estate company 
  • Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Adaptability and attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to contribute wherever necessary; “can do,” “no task too small” attitude
