Job Description

Title: Staff Accountant, Inventory

 

Salary Range: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 annually. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, and budget.  

 

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

 

The Staff Accountant will report to the Inventory Manager. The Staff Accountant will support the Operations teams by performing day-to-day inventory accounting functions and related accounting activities including month-end close and financial audit support (e.g., year-end audits). The Staff Accountant will work closely with other accounting team members, as well as IT and retail store personnel.


  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for areas such as inventory, accruals and prepaid accounts
  • Process inventory adjustments in the subledger and review inventory adjustments processed by retail stores and warehouses to ensure proper support and approvals were obtained
  • Reconcile 3rd party distribution center inventory balances to inventory subledger and investigate differences
  • Monitor inventory balances for international retail stores in Teamworks to ensure all transactions are posted in AX and intercompany transactions balance 
  • Perform month end balance sheet account reconciliations and analyze account variances to prior periods
  • Prepare rollforwards and verify accuracy of all monthly activity, including warehouse adjustments (i.e., cycle counts, damages, etc.) 
  • Work closely with distribution personnel to review invoices to ensure accurate recording / coding of distribution costs and ensure costs are appropriately accrued 
  • Provide support for analysis of inventory obsolescence reserves 
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and support cycle counting procedures 
  • Generate reporting and analysis for inventory costing
  • Work with business partners to ensure accurate and timely recognition of packaging and shipping costs
  • Coordinate with FP&A team and related business partners to ensure corporate expense accruals are recorded accurately and in a timely manner
  • Use analysis and research to ensure prepaid balances and related amortization expense is recorded properly and within established company guidelines
  • Support our year-end financial audit
  • Assist with special projects and research on an as needed basis

 

Qualifications/Experience We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Two to three years of experience, with focus on inventory accounting/control 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to perform critical analysis and thinking, prioritize and problem solve
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask with time sensitive constraints
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive individual who can work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment
  • Work effectively within the department and across departments
  • Desire to identify and implement process improvement opportunities
  • Prior experience working with Microsoft Dynamics AX, Teamworks and/or New Store preferred
  • Strong background with Microsoft Excel particularly pivot tables, v-lookups, and sum-if functions
