BASIC FUNCTIONS:




  • Diagnose, repair and maintain road construction and related equipment to ensure safe operation of all Carlton County equipment through proper maintenance, service, and repair.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul




  • Diagnose issues and make repairs on mobile equipment such as sweepers, bulldozers, trucks, power mowers, stripers and graders and on automobiles used by Carlton County departments.

  • Repair and maintain non-mobile equipment such as plow blades, chain saws, pumps, conveyors and other equipment used by the county.

  • Overhaul diesel and gasoline engines; replace parts as necessary.

  • Repair differentials and rear end assemblies, reading manuals to obtain specifications, diagnosing issues and replacing bearings, gears, shafts or other worn parts.

  • Troubleshoot transmissions, diagnosing issues by pressure checking, studying specifications and replacing parts.

  • Repair electrical systems, rebuilding or replacing alternators, generators and starters, analyzing issues with an amp-volt regulator and replacing parts as necessary.

  • Repair and replace brakes, steering and suspension systems; rebuild calipers and replace broken springs and other parts.

  • Diagnose, adjust and repair hydraulic systems; repack hydraulic cylinders and rebuild hydraulic pumps; pressure-check hydraulic systems.

  • Fabricate parts necessary for the repair of equipment by welding or using drill presses, grinders, power saws; fabricate and mount plow hitches and other special equipment.

  • Determine what parts and materials to order from vendors and suppliers.

  • Maintain current inventory of parts.
