    Primary Job Functions:  Reports to the building principal and/or front office clerical staff daily to receive class assignment. Assignment can be in any class, including general education, special education, PE, etc. Reviews plans and schedule to be followed during the teaching day. Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned. Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the substitute teacher’s guide/or lesson plans as prepared by the absent teacher.

    Salary Lane:  ASST - Hourly pay starting at $18.50.
     
    FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
     
    Assigned Workday Calendar:  181 days (School Year Days)
     
    Job Status:  Full-Time – 35 Hours per Week
     
    Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 7:00am - 2:30pm

    Qualifications:
     
    • Education: A minimum of twenty (20) credits from an accredited college/university. Indiana Teaching Certification Preferred.
    • Skills and Knowledge: Effective communication skills.  Able to work with a wide range of students; able to work effectively with the staff and administration; effectively communicate with other staff, administration, students, parents, and community; familiar with and applies appropriate teaching strategies. Flexible and able to adapt to varying schedule.
    • Experience:  1-3 years of classroom, small group or 1:1 experience in educational setting
    • Certification:  None is required.
    • Other:  Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pu­pils, staff, parents, and the community.
     
    Essential Functions:
     
    • Reports to the building principal and/or front office clerical staff upon arrival at building to receive daily assignment.
    • Reports to daily assignment and reviews plans and schedule to be followed during the teaching day.
    • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
    • Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the substitute teacher’s guide/or lesson plans as prepared by the absent teacher.
    • Responsible for overseeing student behavior and well-being during student day.
    • Assumes duties of assigned teacher to include but not limited arrival/dismissal, lunch and recess duties.
    • Provides summary of day’s activities, completion of lesson plans and student behaviors for absence teacher to review upon return.
    • Follows the policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
    • Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.
    • Project a genuine care and concern for all students.
    • Participate in professional development, as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
     
    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
