Western Tidewater Community Services Board (WTCSB) is seeking compassionate and dedicated staff to join our team.

 

At WTCSB, our mission is to provide a coordinated system of quality, recovery-oriented care in mental health, substance use, and intellectual disability services. We are passionate about helping youth, and young adults build resilience, wellness, and hope.

 

We invite you to join our team as a Youth Support Partner (YSP) —a lived-experienced professional who walks alongside adolescents and young adults on their path to recovery and wellness.

 

Position Summary

The Youth Support Partner engages adolescents (ages 12–17) and young adults (ages 18–25) who are living with or recovering from mental health and/or substance use challenges. Using personal lived experience, the YSP promotes recovery, resiliency, and positive youth development through one-on-one and group peer support, outreach, and wellness activities.

 

The YSP collaborates closely with treatment teams, schools, and community organizations to help youth identify goals, navigate transitions, explore career and educational opportunities, and connect to natural supports in their community.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide direct peer recovery support services for youth and young adults.
  • Encourage engagement in wellness and recovery, focusing on resilience, health, and prosocial activities.
  • Support youth through service transitions, including emergency care, treatment programs, and aftercare.
  • Partner with families, schools, and community resources to enhance support networks.
  • Facilitate group activities and outreach that promote mental health and substance use recovery awareness.
  • Participate in community presentations to increase understanding of youth recovery supports.
  • Maintain documentation and data collection in accordance with DBHDS and WTCSB reporting standards.
  • Participate in quarterly technical assistance calls and required Youth Mental Health Corps activities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must have lived experience starting in childhood or adolescence within a youth-serving system (e.g., behavioral health, foster care, juvenile justice, or substance use recovery).
  • Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS)
  • Strong communication, empathy, and teamwork skills.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and acceptable DMV record.
  • Experience using Electronic Health Records and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Be between the ages of 18-29
