Job Summary

Logan High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Head Girls Wrestling Coach to lead and develop a competitive and inclusive wrestling program. The coach will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including athlete development, practice and competition planning, supervision, and program promotion. The ideal candidate will foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, academic success, and personal growth while building skills and enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling.

Essential Functions

  • Analyzes opponents’ wrestling styles, match footage, and competition strategies before and during meets/tournaments to assess strengths and weaknesses and develop effective match plans.
  • Assesses student-athletes’ wrestling skills, conditioning, and performance to provide individualized feedback and determine varsity, JV, and developmental team placement.
  • Attends meetings, clinics, workshops, and conferences to stay current with wrestling techniques, rules, safety standards, and program expectations.
  • Organizes and oversees program events (e.g., parent meetings, team banquets, recognition events) to communicate program goals and celebrate student-athlete achievements.
  • Develops match strategies and competition plans to prepare wrestlers for duals, invitationals, and championship tournaments.
  • Designs and implements comprehensive training programs (e.g., strength, conditioning, technique, weight management, injury prevention) to enhance wrestler performance and safety.
  • Evaluates wrestling facilities, mats, and equipment to identify hazards and ensure a safe training and competition environment.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to assistant coaches in practice planning, technique instruction, and athlete supervision.
  • Identifies program needs and recommends expenditures for equipment, uniforms, travel, and training resources to strengthen the wrestling program.
  • Ensures appropriate and compliant use of program funding sources in alignment with district and state policies.
  • Develops and manages practice schedules, competitions, travel logistics, and facility use to ensure efficient program operations.
  • Instructs and mentors student-athletes while modeling sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, and respect both on and off the mat.
  • Maintains accurate records (e.g., match results, athlete eligibility, medical forms, inventory, schedules) to comply with district, region, and state athletic requirements.
  • Assigns coaching responsibilities to assistant coaches based on experience and program needs.
  • Monitors academic eligibility of student-athletes and coordinates support (e.g., tutoring, interventions) to promote academic success.
  • Supervises assistant coaches, student managers, and volunteers to ensure proper conduct and effective program support.
  • Assists with hiring processes when requested (e.g., interviewing, evaluating, recommending candidates).
  • Promotes the girls wrestling program through off-season training opportunities, youth clinics, camps, and community engagement to build participation and visibility.
  • Communicates effectively with athletes, parents, school staff, media, and college recruiters to provide information and support student opportunities.
  • Represents the wrestling program and school at region/state meetings, competitions, and professional events.
  • Supervises student-athletes at all times during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the wrestling program.
