GENERAL SUMMARY




  • Entry level position for surgical processing technician.  With guidance from OR Sterile Processor Lead, Coordinator, Surgical Equipment & Supplies or other assigned preceptors, the Trainee will assist and learn how to properly re-process surgical instrumentation and equipment. 

  • Performing decontamination, distribution, inventory, instrumentation and sterilization duties

  • Adheres to safety and professional standards of conduct as a processing technician.

  • Initiates and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and customers

  • Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment

  • Displays commitment to the mission of the hospital and its values



MINIMUM QUALIFICATION



Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



High School graduate or GED equivalent.



Ability to read, write and follow English verbal and written instructions, and performs mathematical calculations. The ability to disassemble and reassemble devices. Good hand/eye coordination is necessary. Good manual dexterity. Able to listen and communicate well. Willingness to follow directions. Knowledge of sterilization, packaging and decontamination techniques. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation. Computer-literate



Ability to complete and maintain quality assurance reports.

Basic computer knowledge sufficient to manage case pulls and instrument stocking and tracking.

Acts in a courteous and professional manner.



Required Length and Type of Experience



One year related experience working in the healthcare field or completion of a state certified program is preferred.



Required Licensure or Certification



To Successfully complete recognized training program and certification and to be certified eligible within 12 to 15 months after hire.



Required Physical and Environmental Demands



This job requires the ability to walk six to eight miles in an eight-hour shift and to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This job also requires that an individual be able to work under periods of high stress and in a consistently fast-paced environment. Exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluids.



Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting and bending or reaching for prolonged periods of time.  Ability to instrument trays and linen packs weighing 25 pounds on a continual basis etc.
