Job Description
Procedure Tech/Radiation Tech (PRN)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operates radiologic equipment to produce images for procedure guidance under the supervision of the physician.
  • Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation.
  • Assists in radiology quality assurance and quality improvement activities. 
  • Effectively communicates with patients, family, and other healthcare team members.
  • Sets up procedure rooms including equipment and supplies. 
  • Participates in performance improvement data collection. 
  • Follows all safety requirements of the facility per policy under the direction of the Governing Board.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques using restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patients and staff. 
  • Uses personal protective equipment including lead aprons as required. 
  • Properly operates, mobilizes, and positions equipment. 
  • Sets up and uses appropriate techniques and protocols as indicated. 
  • Responsible for the safe operation of radiologic equipment.
  • Cleans equipment and stocks procedure rooms as needed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and advises supervisor of equipment malfunctions. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Factors affecting environmental conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: 
  • Biohazardous waste.
  • Blood-borne pathogens.
  • Communicable diseases. 
  • Electrical shock. 
  • Hot/cold temperatures. 
  • Latex.
  • Patient care/handling injuries. 
  • Radiation.
