    Residency Education Experience: The Residency Education Experience within the Dayton School Department is a year-long internship experience in which candidates have the opportunity to learn alongside a mentor teacher, and educate students in a co-teaching model with a graduated degree of responsibility phased in over the school year. 

     

    Overview: The Residency Education Experience is designed as a year-long internship, allowing candidates to observe and implement all aspects of teaching and managing a classroom from the first day through the final day of school.  The Residency Education Experience requires a gradual increase of responsibility, where the Intern and the cooperating teacher/mentor work together in a co-teaching model with shared responsibility.  The Residency Education Experience requires increased responsibility working in a classroom and a longer duration of lead teaching.  This is a paid position. 

     

    Qualifications:

    1. Be enrolled in an accredited education degree program
    2. Be on pace to meet all requirements for graduation, including the required completion of an internship experience (as verified by the University)
    3. Complete background clearance/fingerprinting through the District and Maine Department of Education
    4. Commit to the position for the school year, following the school calendar for professional development, school breaks, and school start/end times
    5. Work with the University to schedule required courses/classes around the school schedule when possible
    6. Supports learning opportunities in the following areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and SEL
    7. Help develop lesson plans, units of study, and instructional materials to provide customized, small, and large group instruction
    8. Communicate with teachers, community outreach, building leaders, and other staff to enhance the program and outcomes
    9. Support an effective learning environment through a variety of learning tools, games, and interactive lessons
    10. Other job-related duties as assigned by the Principal
