Staff Engineer, Customer Enablement (TCAD/Process)
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You are the person people call when a device process problem hits the wall and the roadmap is at risk. You have spent years in the trenches of process integration or module development, and you know that the difference between a working solution and a failed tapeout is often a single overlooked detail in the simulation flow. You do not just run tools; you build, automate, and tune them so they actually solve the problem at hand. You know your way around scripting in TCL or Python, and you are quick to automate what others do manually. You thrive in conversations with R&D, customers, and partners—you can explain why a methodology matters to a fab engineer and translate that same need to a product spec for a developer. You keep up with the latest in TCAD, DTCO, and advanced device technology, not because you have to, but because you want to see what is coming next and be ready for it. You are never satisfied with “good enough.” You look for gaps, propose features, and run your own regression tests to be sure the solution holds up. You want your work to matter to the people making the world’s most advanced chips.
What You'll Be Doing
Partner with customers, support teams, and R&D to develop and deploy process modeling solutions for advanced logic, memory, and power device technology nodes
Provide hands-on technical support for business development, including engagement with global fabs, equipment vendors, and fabless partners
Build, automate, and customize simulation flows using scripting languages (TCL, Python) to address real-world customer challenges
Develop and document methodologies, benchmarks, and training content that help customers succeed and scale with Synopsys technology
Enable links between process simulation, TCAD device modeling, RC extraction, lithography, and mechanical stress for DTCO solutions
Work closely with R&D to identify solution gaps, specify new features, and participate in product QA through regression testing
Stay on top of state-of-the-art process and simulation technologies, bringing insights back to improve both product and methodology
The Impact You Will Have
Accelerate customer adoption of advanced process and device modeling by solving integration hurdles before they become roadblocks
Improve the quality and reliability of Synopsys simulation flows, making them robust enough for the world’s leading fabs and foundries
Shorten learning curves for customers and internal teams with clear methodology documentation and targeted training
Drive tangible product improvements by translating real customer needs and pain points into actionable R&D features
Strengthen Synopsys’ reputation as a trusted technical partner to global customers, from early engagement through technology enablement
Enable DTCO initiatives by connecting process, device, and design flows in ways that unlock new device performance and scaling
Reduce support cycles and troubleshooting time by automating repetitive tasks and building reusable scripts
What You'll Need
A Master’s degree with 3+ years, or a PhD, in semiconductor engineering or related field (required)
Demonstrated hands-on experience with process integration or module development in advanced logic, memory, or power device technologies
Working knowledge of process simulation tools or engineering software (e.g., TCAD, process flow simulators)
Proficiency with scripting languages such as TCL or Python for automation and customization
Experience with unit process steps (etch, thin films, lithography), metrology, APC, or statistical analysis is a plus
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, especially in high-stakes technology development contexts
Excellent communication skills for engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Who You Are
You dig into problem statements until you understand not just the “what” but the “why” behind a customer’s challenge
You can explain a simulation flow to a device engineer and a software developer, adapting your language for each audience
You automate what you can, document what you must, and never let a workaround become a permanent solution
You are comfortable asking tough questions when a methodology or tool does not add up
You track new developments in process and device technology, and you bring those insights back to your team
You thrive on making complex workflows simpler and more robust for everyone downstream
