Construction Accounting Specialist  


 Location: Cedar Rapids, IA

 Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday

Help support construction and remodeling projects from the financial side by tracking budgets, managing billing, and ensuring accurate financial operations that keep projects running smoothly.




About the Role

To The Rescue is seeking a Construction Accounting Specialist to support financial operations for our Construction & Remodeling business in the Cedar Rapids area.

In this role, you’ll work closely with both Construction and Accounting teams to track project budgets, manage billing processes, and ensure accurate financial reporting throughout the lifecycle of new home builds and remodeling projects. Your work will directly support our mission of improving people’s lives by helping projects stay financially on track.

Key Responsibilities

Project Financial Management

  • Track project spending against budgets and ensure compliance with approved amounts

  • Assist with Work in Progress (WIP) and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

  • Monitor project performance and communicate any discrepancies or concerns

  • Review project files to ensure completeness and accuracy

Billing & Subcontractor Management

  • Process accounts receivable, progress billings, and incoming payments

  • Manage subcontractor payments and reconcile construction loan disbursements

  • Obtain and manage Certificates of Insurance (COIs) from subcontractors and suppliers

  • Manage lien waivers and releases for all subcontractors

  • Ensure past-due invoices are resolved before becoming delinquent

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Post daily transactions in ERP and construction accounting systems

  • Maintain accurate Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss ledgers

  • Set up and maintain vendor and subcontractor records

  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures

  • Provide accounting support for special projects as needed

Collaboration & Support

  • Act as a liaison between Construction and Accounting departments

  • Communicate proactively with internal teams regarding financial issues or process gaps

  • Provide customer service support for incoming inquiries and follow-up communication

  • Keep leadership informed of any operational concerns or inefficiencies

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of accounting experience required

  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP

  • Experience with accounting systems and reporting tools

  • Experience with QuickBooks and Google Sheets is a plus

  • Project or construction accounting experience preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is a plus




Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required and must be insurable under company policy
