Job Obiective:
The Degreed Nutritionist is responsible for providing counseling and nutrition education for high risk WIC Participants. The Degreed Nutritionist performs enrollments, re-certifications, mid-certifications, trimester checks, prescribes and issues food instruments for WIC participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Conducts nutrition assessment for WIC participants
- Evaluates height, weight, and lab values from medical form
- Evaluates nutrition questionnaire
- Evaluates and prioritizes nutrition risks
- Consults with the Registered Dietitian to develop a care plan
B. Nutrition education
- Provides nutrition counseling on ISIS generated risks or participant choice
- Includes breastfeeding encouragement and support education for all pregnant participants
- Uses motivational interviewing techniques and involves participant in counseling
- Counseling is focused and time spent is appropriate
- Appropriate pamphlets and referral are given
- Facilitate/conduct group education classes
- Attend Agency meetings to keep current on participant education topics which includes driving to alternate clinics
C. Documentation
- Enters all data, labs, height/weight, and demographic information into ISIS correctly
- Enters note in the INEP screen for all enrollments, recertification's, single trimester, and mid-certification checks
- The note entered in the INEP screen is related to the ISIS generated nutrition risk and the appropriate follow up plan is indicated when necessary
- All pregnant participants have a breasffeeding support/encouragement note in on the individual screen
- Education contacts are documented on the Nutrition Education screen for each participant
- Appropriate HOLDS are placed for request for blood test, immunization record, medical forms, address, and income verification
- Ensure all appropriate documents are signed by the participant
D. ISIS competency
- Complete enrollments, recertification's, mid-certifications, trimester checks, and Disqualifications according to WIC Program guidelines
- Prescribe the correct food package for the participant
- Make the correct appointment in the correct clinic for the participant
- Enter all data into ISIS correctly

Education and Experience:
Education
- BS or Masters Degree in Food Nutrition Dietetics or related field
And
- Must meet the education requirements stated in the California WIC Program Manual (WPM 130-50)
Experience
- 1 year of experience working in a community nutrition program preferred
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- BS Degreed Nutritionist must complete 50 continuing education units every 5 years
- MS Degreed Nutritionist must complete 75 continuing education units every 5 years.
- California driver's license and current car insurance

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand and walk for most of the day
- Must be able to function in a noisy crowded environmnet
- Must be able to lift and carry 15 pounds for short distances
- Must be able to work schedule required by theneeds of the program
