Position Overview
The Transportation & Fleet Support Specialist plays a critical dual role in safely transporting students and supporting the maintenance and operational readiness of the Holton-Arms School vehicle fleet. This position requires a valid CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements and involves driving assigned routes, field trips, and athletic events, as well as assisting with preventative maintenance, inspections, inventory management, and facility support operations. This individual works closely with the Transportation & Operations Manager, Transportation & Operations Supervisors, and mechanics to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation:
- Operate school buses and other Holton vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
- Drive scheduled route, field trips and athletic trips.
- Serve as a standby driver in cases of emergency or regular route driver absences.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT and state regulations.
- Ensure student safety, enforce bus rules, and maintain orderly conduct during transport.
- Maintain accurate route manifest, inspection logs, and incident reports.
Inspection & Preventive Maintenance Support:
- Perform detailed inspections including checking and servicing fluids, lights, tires, brakes, and safety equipment.
- Add or replace fluids as needed (oil, DEF, coolant, washer fluid, etc.).
- Perform minor maintenance such as:
- Replacing light bulbs, knobs, and filters
- Greasing and lubricating chassis components
- Performing oil changes
- Assisting mechanics with general repairs and maintenance tasks
- Clean and sanitize vehicles regularly.
- Drop off vehicles for external service appointments and retrieve them upon completion.
Operations & Inventory Management:
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and commonly used parts.
- Research and order parts required for preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
- Coordinate with mechanics to schedule preventative maintenance services.
- Pick up parts and supplies from vendors as needed.
- Assist in tracking fleet maintenance schedules to ensure compliance.
Administrative:
- Perform data entry for service repairs, inspections, and maintenance records.
- Assist in maintaining organized documentation for compliance, warranty, and audit purposes.
- Support reporting needs for fleet performance and safety compliance.
Inclement Weather Support:
- Actively support campus operations during snow events or atypical conditions. This includes hands-on assistance with snow removal and ice mitigation at building entrances and walkways to ensure safe passage and support of the Facilities and Security team. As essential personnel, the incumbent plays a critical role in campus continuity, requiring reporting during closures, delayed openings, and emergencies to maintain facility safety and accessibility.
Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements required.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass background check and drug/alcohol screening.
- Knowledge of school bus safety regulations and DOT compliance standards.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with vehicle maintenance practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and record keeping.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00 with the exact rate to be determined based on experience.
