Job Description

Description

  • Assists physical therapist in initial & subsequent evaluations of patient in accordance with state regulations; identifies needs and participates in development of healthcare programs to meet the needs of specific patient populations.
  • Implements treatment plan using modalities as specified by licensed physical therapist and administers complex and non-complex active & passive exercises, manual therapy techniques, heat, cold, light, sound, water & electrical modalities and traction; demonstrates proficiency in treatment modalities according to established techniques and treatment goals; provides services according to age specific needs.
  • Completes patient charges accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures appropriate and legible documentation of progress notes are entered on the medical record according to hospital and departmental policy.
  • Provides patient/family/caregiver education and verifies their understanding of instruction.
  • Ensures all services delivered are consistent with professional standards recommended by the American Physical Therapy Association; maintains current knowledge of physical therapy and keeps management informed of new developments.
  • Works closely with other therapists and disciplines to ensure smooth transition of care between staff members.

Requirements

BLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment. Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant program. Clinical student experience as required for graduation. Conducts self in a professional manner with superiors and peers. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.

Summary

Under supervision of the Department Manager and a licensed physical therapist, provides direct physical therapy services. Implements comprehensive patient care for individual age specific needs by using an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Identifies health and safety concerns and unsafe work practices within the workplace. Is involved in developing safe work practices and is held accountable for the day to day efforts of ensuring a safe workplace by following safe work practices.
