Position Summary


The Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Football Coach in the organization, administration, and development of the football program. This position assists in maintaining a competitive NCAA Division III program while supporting the academic success, personal development, and overall welfare of student-athletes.


The Assistant Coach works collaboratively with athletic department staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders while ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Coaching and Program Operations



  • Assist with planning and conducting practices, meetings, and game preparation

  • Coach and develop a designated position group as assigned

  • Assist with opponent scouting, film analysis, and game planning

  • Implement and reinforce program standards, terminology, and technique instruction

  • Support team travel logistics, practice organization, and equipment management

  • Maintain working knowledge of NCAA Division III, conference, and institutional rules


Recruiting and Student-Athlete Development



  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who fit the institution and program culture

  • Maintain regular communication with prospective student-athletes, families, and high school coaches

  • Collaborate with admissions and athletics staff to support the recruiting process

  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress and eligibility in coordination with academic support staff

  • Promote a positive environment focused on personal development, leadership, and accountability


Program Administration



  • Assist with daily administrative functions of the football program

  • Support facility scheduling, team operations, and internal communication

  • Assist with budget oversight and responsible use of program resources

  • Supervise student workers, interns, or volunteer staff as assigned

  • Assist with game management responsibilities as directed


External Engagement



  • Build positive relationships with alumni, supporters, and members of the campus community

  • Represent the football program at community, recruiting, and university events

  • Support alumni engagement and fundraising initiatives consistent with NCAA guidelines


Professional Development



  • Maintain current knowledge of coaching strategies and best practices

  • Participate in professional development opportunities including clinics and coaching associations

  • Contribute to departmental initiatives and service opportunities when appropriate


Professional Commitment


This position requires evening and weekend hours including practices, competitions, recruiting activities, and team events. Travel is required for recruiting and team competition.


Qualifications


Required



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • One year of professional experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college student-athletes and university personnel

  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and commitment to compliance

  • Ability to assist with recruiting and student-athlete development initiatives


Preferred



  • Master’s degree

  • Collegiate coaching and/or playing experience

  • Experience supporting recruiting operations and program administration


Salary & Benefits:



  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 18 (Step 1: $55,142 to Step 4: $63,410), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.

  • For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10)
