    Miller School is seeking a principal to lead a wonderful school of approximately 275 students in grades Pre-K�5. We are looking for a student-centered instructional leader who will respect and build upon the school's strong, positive culture while taking time to understand the Waldoboro community, our students, families, and staff. The successful candidate will value what is already working within the school, listen thoughtfully, and implement improvements gradually with input from staff and families.

    The ideal candidate will be a visible and approachable leader with a strong presence throughout the school. This leader will build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families by being accessible, participating in daily school life, and leading by example. A willingness to assist wherever needed�from supervision duties to behavioral support�demonstrates a commitment to shared responsibility and teamwork.

    Strong communication skills and transparency are essential. The principal should communicate clearly, listen to staff concerns, maintain confidentiality, and provide timely information to staff and families. Open and consistent communication will help maintain trust and collaboration across the school community.

    We are seeking a supportive and collaborative instructional leader who empowers teachers and values teamwork. This includes supporting current initiatives, demonstrating flexibility with curriculum implementation to meet student needs, and encouraging professional growth. The principal should recognize the demands on staff and foster a respectful and supportive work environment.

    A strong commitment to inclusive practices and student support is critical. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of special education, including the IEP process and applicable laws, and will advocate for students with diverse needs. Experience with behavioral support, trauma-informed practices, crisis response, and schoolwide systems such as PBIS and attendance initiatives is highly valued.

    The base salary for this position is very competitive.

    Essential Functions:

    a. Be responsible for the overall administration of the school, consistent with RSU 40 policies and state and federal laws
    b. Provide leadership in the areas of curricula, instruction, assessment, and interventions
    c. Supervise and evaluate all staff and make recommendations regarding employment
    d. Assist in screening, interviewing, and hiring staff
    e. Develop schedules for staff and students and lead staff meetings
    f. Assist in budget preparation and monitor school expenditures
    g. Participate in district policy development when appropriate
    h. Maintain records consistent with state law and manage general office routines
    i. Lead staff in establishing expectations for student behavior and safety
    j. Enforce laws and policies related to student attendance
    k. Oversee the maintenance and operation of the building and grounds
    l. Maintain strong communication with staff, students, parents, and the community
    m. Attend Board meetings when appropriate
    n. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent

    Qualifications include:

    • Master's degree or higher in educational leadership (or equivalent)
    • Appropriate Maine certification (040)
    • Successful teaching experience
    • Successful administrative experience preferred
