Job Description

Description

The position performs various patient care activities under the direction of an RN, which includes assisting in individualized patient care and performing non-clinical support tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Answers call lights and assists with patient requests.

Bathes patient, assist with {Activities of Daily Living} ADLS and assist with ambulation. Documents care provided in CPSI POC system

Serve and collect food trays, pass water and feed patients requiring help. Change bed linen daily and as needed.

Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, food and fluids intake and output, as directed. Applies compresses, ice bags, aqua-pads, and Ted hose (pneumatic hose). 

Observe and report changes in the patient’s status to the nurse assigned to the patient or the charge nurse. 

Assist with peri-care and post mortem care as indicated.  

Assist with setting up auxiliary equipment (i.e. oxygen, suction, Gomco, nebulizers, K-pads, etc.) under direction of R.N. or assigned by L.P.N. that does not require a license for performance. 

Attends or reads the minutes of 100% of appropriate staff meetings. 

Maintain the standards of nursing care and sanitation.  Implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department.

Perform various patient care activities necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients under the direction of the Team Leader/Supervisor.

Assist with the provision of a safe environment and properly functioning equipment which includes, but is not limited to, participating in Fire Drills, reading the Fire Plan, MSDS manual, disaster plans, and attending safety in-services.

Maintain a clean environment.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to care for the population served – Pediatrics through Geriatrics.

Demonstrate a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with patients, families, and co-workers at all times.

Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times.

Maintain professionalism in manner and grooming at all times.

Respect, at all times, the confidentiality of patients.

Requirements

CNA certification preferred, but not required.

Complete departmental orientation and CPR certification course.

 

Summary

This position involves providing direct patient care and non-clinical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The Patient Care Technician observes and reports changes in patient status to the nurse, assists with setting up auxiliary equipment, and ensures a clean and safe environment. Maintaining standards of nursing care, attending staff meetings, and adhering to hospital policies are essential. The position requires a high level of emotional tolerance, professionalism, and respect for patient confidentiality, while demonstrating the knowledge and skill necessary to care for patients from pediatrics through geriatrics.
