    POSITION: School Social Worker

    LOCATION:  Various Locations

    JOB SUMMARY:
    The Dougherty County School System is actively seeking School Social Workers to enhance the district's ability to meet its academic mission, especially where home, school and community collaboration is the key to achieving student success. ?School social workers bring unique knowledge and skills to the school system and the Student Support and Empowerment Team. School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy.  School social workers are instrumental in furthering the mission of the schools in the Dougherty County School System to provide a setting that nurtures teaching, learning, and for the attainment of competence and confidence. 


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Master's Degree in Social Work from a GaPSC-accepted institution;
    2. Certification in School Social Work at level 5 or higher;
    3. Valid State of Georgia Master Social Worker's or Clinical Social Worker's License issued by the Professional Licensing Boards Division;
    4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
       

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

    1. Excellent communication, organization, and case management skills;
    2. Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities;
    3. Expertise in assisting with mental health and behavioral concerns, provide positive behavioral, academic, and classroom support in consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators to promote student achievement.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.  Participate in special education assessment meetings as well as individual Educational Planning Meetings;
    2. Work with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child's adjustment in school. (home, school, and community);
    3. Prepare a social or developmental history on a child with a disability;
    4. Counseling (group, individual and/or family);
    5. Mobilize family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program
    6. Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies;
    7. Provide crisis intervention;
    8. Develop intervention strategies to increase academic success;
    9. Assist with conflict resolution and anger management;
    10. Help the child develop appropriate social interaction skills;
    11. Assist the child in understanding and accepting self and others;
    12. Work with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment;
    13. Alleviates daily stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and community;
    14. Assists parents to access programs available to students with special needs;
    15. Assists parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources;
    16. Provides staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student's performance and behavior;
    17. Assesses students with mental health concerns;
    18. Develops staff in-service training programs;
    19. Assists teachers with behavior management;
    20. Provides direct support to staff;
    21. Obtains and coordinates community resources to meet students' needs;
    22. Helps ensure DCSS receives adequate support from social and mental health agencies;
    23. Advocates for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families;
    24. Helps the system respond effectively to each child's needs;
    25. Assists in developing and implementing educational programs for students with attendance concerns or involvement with law enforcement;
    26. Identifies and reports child abuse and neglect;
    27. Provides consultations regarding school law and school policy IDEA and Section 504;
    28. Provides case management for students and families requiring multiple resources;
    29. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
       



    REPORTS TO:  Executive Director of Student Support & Empowerment 

    SALARY RANGE:   This is a grant funded position with a competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with DCSS Compensation Guide.
