Job Description

Job Title: School Counselor 


Department: Student Wellness


Reports To: School Counseling Coordinator


Compensation Range: $70,000


Classification: Classified


 


Summary:


The School Counselor works under the direct supervision of the School Counseling Coordinator. This position will provide expert support and guidance supporting all students. This position will implement evidence-based strategies, and the Counselors will be responsible for providing technical assistance, training, and ongoing support to school staff.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Provide school counseling services to all students.

  • Utilize a tiered support framework to address students’ psychological, academic, and social barriers to learning.

  • Provide crisis intervention and refer to mental health providers to ensure student safety 

  • Collect, maintain and analyze implementation and outcome data on programming and services to make data driven decisions.

  • Provide expert technical assistance and training to teachers and staff in implementing evidence-based strategies for supporting students who have experienced trauma.

  • Demonstrate initiative and strong self-motivation in implementing a school counseling program, including proactive planning, organization, and continuous improvement of services to meet student needs.

  • Provide established and emerging evidence based counseling theories, techniques, and trauma informed practices that are effective in a school setting to promote student success.

  • Collaborate with Managing Directors, teachers, staff, community partners, families, and students to ensure early identification of student needs, and connect students to mental health and social services as needed.

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver early intervention services to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development through targeted small group instruction, individualized intervention, and proactive parent support. 

  • Provide regular progress reports on program activities and outcomes.

  • Provide guidance and support for the development of program sustainability plans and strategies.

  • Follow the American School Counseling Association Ethical Standards to demonstrate high standards of integrity, leadership, and professionalism


 


Supervisory Responsibilities: 



  • No supervisory responsibilities


 


Education and/or Experience        



  • Oklahoma School Counseling Certification

  • Masters Degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, or similar

  • Experience in student counseling 

  • Experience and knowledge of trauma-sensitive schools’ best practices, and technical assistance.

  • Advanced understanding of trauma-sensitive school programs

  • Collect and analyze a variety of data

  • Strong communication skills, verbal/written

  • Demonstrates ability to think creatively and demonstrates leadership abilities

  • Ability to build effective relationships, work collaboratively and gain credibility quickly to instill confidence in teaching ability

  • Strong decision-making, organizational, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills

  • Resolve issues and conflicts

  • Strong technology skills in computer software: Zoom, word processing and spreadsheets

  • Current on new instructional technologies

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others

  • Demonstrates self-discipline and initiative

  • Passionate commitment to the mission of school choice

  • Ability to maintain professional confidentiality and comply with FERPA guidelines


 


Language Skills                   


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and coworkers, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to effectively present information to students, families and supervisor.  


 


Mathematical Skills                   


Basic math skills required


 


Reasoning Ability                   


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 


 


Computer Skills                   


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with EdPlan preferred. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.


 


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 



  • Current driver's license and valid car insurance

  • Oklahoma School Counseling Certification 


 


Other Qualifications                  



  • Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made

  • Must have favorable employment references

This position is remotely based and also must travel to various Epic sites. This requires spending a significant amount of time in the car, driving in various conditions and at various times of day. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.)
