Job Description

The Hybrid Mental Health Technician (MHT)/SUDPT role is designed for a highly adaptable, clinically grounded professional who thrives in a small, high-acuity environment. This hybrid position requires flexibility, sound clinical judgment, and a strong recovery-oriented mindset.



This position supports clients across the full continuum of care, detox stabilization, residential treatment, and early recovery by delivering therapeutic services within scope, reinforcing treatment engagement, and maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive milieu.



Mental Health Technician Functions:




  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and structured milieu across all shifts.

  • Perform regular client safety checks and document observations accurately.

  • Monitor clients for withdrawal symptoms, mental health changes, and behavioral concerns; escalate concerns appropriately.

  • Support detox operations by assisting licensed staff with non-clinical tasks within scope.

  • Responding to crises, de-escalation needs, and behavioral incidents using trauma-informed practices.

  • Assist with medication line support (non-administrative), client reminders, and compliance monitoring.

  • Enforce program rules, boundaries, and unit expectations consistently and professionally.

  • Support daily unit operations, including shift coverage, client transitions, and activity coordination.

  • Assist with client admissions, orientations, and room assignments.

  • Facilitate or support therapeutic activities, groups, and recreational programming.

  • Provide meal support, client escorts, and supervision as needed.

  • Maintain clear communication with nursing, clinical leadership, and operations staff.

  • Complete required shift reports, incident reports, and safety documentation discharge/transition planning.

  • Use trauma-information and de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral issues or crises.

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational, life skills, and recovery-focused groups and I would like to help create our group topics for fill in groups in case needed.

  • Work to help make training for MHT staff optional like peer support & CPI.

  • And help on floor as the hybrid role would allow and make it and even workflow.



Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) Functions:




  • Deliver individual and group counseling services under supervision, consistent with state SUDPT scope of practice.

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized treatment plans.

  • Facilitate psychoeducation, relapse prevention, life skills, and recovery-focused groups.

  • Conduct client check-ins, motivational interviewing, and recovery planning support.

  • Accurately complete progress notes, group notes, and treatment documentation in the EHR.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations.

  • Support discharge planning, aftercare coordination, and continuity of care.



Recovery Coach Functions:




  • Provide peer-based recovery support rooted in lived experience or recovery-informed practice.

  • Model healthy coping skills, boundaries, and recovery-oriented behavior.

  • Support clients during high-risk moments, cravings, emotional dysregulation, or ambivalence toward treatment.

  • Encourage participation in programming, groups, and community recovery activities

  • Assist clients with goal setting, daily structure, and accountability.

  • Help clients navigate early recovery challenges, including transitions from detox to residential care.

  • Support transportation to appointments or recovery activities when applicable.
