Job Summary
Designs and develops production layouts for a company’s warehouse to increase productivity and quality standards. Their main duties include reviewing current production schedules and processes to find potential improvements, designing the layouts of the facilities and estimating production costs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate current manufacturing practices and identify those needing improvement.
- Designs efficient production processes and workflows.
- Ensures that processes are designed to ensure that products meet quality standards.
- Enforce quality control to reduce waste.
- Improve the efficiency of each production process.
- Evaluate employees’ tasks and responsibilities, identifying procedures or tools to improve productivity.
- Implements controls to monitor costs and minimize production issues.
- Identifies potential locations and determines facility design.
- Works with other departments to develop design and production standards.
- Prepares inventory analysis and procurement purchase orders to address production needs.
- Designs facility layout and personnel requirements in relation to production operations.
- Helps to develop instruction manuals for production personnel.
- Ensures that work processes are safe and addresses safety issues and concerns.
- Generates process documentation and reports.
- Works with technical writers to prepare client and customer proposals.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for an Industrial Engineer. They must be aware of a business’s needs while making technical recommendations understandable.
- Good leadership skills assist the Industrial Engineer in implementing productivity changes. The ability to develop relationships with coworkers is useful when making recommendations.
- Industrial Engineers often need to create viable solutions for a variety of challenges. Whether it is to improve the production of a certain product or to reduce waste, the ability to develop a plan to overcome the problem is important.
- Industrial Engineers need to use analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data. They also use these skills to create reports and describe the results to company decision-makers.
- Knowledge of production machinery, processes, and standards in the field or industry
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and supply-chain management
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Just In Time (JIT) strategizing
- Data analytics skills and attention to detail
- Understanding of ergonomics
- Project management skills
- Strong presentation, organizational, planning, and documentation skills
- Adept at using presentation software and presenting complex information to non-technical management personnel and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously.
- Past use of Agile/Scrum or similar collaborative tools a plus
- Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) platforms.
- Experience using System Applications and Products (SAP) software.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineers, computer science, process control, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar field
- 1 - 3 years Industrial Engineers experience in manufacturing environment or equivalent training
