Pay Information
$51,400 - $77,100 annual
Job Purpose
In this role, you will work with Electric and Internal Combustion Vehicles in a lab environment to support the Safety Department in developing safe vehicles. You will be responsible for preparing vehicles for crash testing to ensure their quality and performance. You will install various instruments, such as accelerometers, load cells and potentiometers to capture the impact of collisions. You will also program the data acquisition system, mount the high-speed video equipment, and install the crash test dummies in the vehicles. On test day, you will support the crash lab by setting up the test environment, conducting the tests, and collecting the data. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, technical skills, and teamwork. This role will be responsible for providing technical engineering expertise, ensuring safety & quality, creating process manuals and utilizing analytics to perform continual improvement daily during the prototype phases of New Model testing activity.
Key Accountabilities
Test Operations Lab
- Supports contract staff through training, quality control and accountability.
- Identifies and solves potential problems with part quality.
- Identify potential or current test performance issues and apply countermeasures including modifications to equipment or procedures while working directly with design & test engineering staff.
- Apply Plan-Do-Check-Act to prevent problem reoccurrence where applicable.
- Coordinates visitor compliance with safety policies and procedures
Technical Expertise
- Directs the proper use of test equipment considering capabilities, limits, and safe use of the equipment.
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert for assigned lab test modes and equipment.
- Program data acquisition, identify Instrumentation mounting location and install Instrumentation (Accelerometers, Load Cells, Strain Gages, & Potentiometers) per Society of Automotive Engineers J211.
- Reviews test data and confirms accuracy and validity.
- Supports annual equipment health review and creates action plans for remedies including justifying upgrades and new equipment.
- Utilize prototype expertise to design tools or parts to improve performance/accuracy.
New Model Prototype Testing
- Perform accurate and efficient testing per test procedure instruction with a priority on Safety.
- Perform special modifications to existing products per countermeasure assigned.
- Read / interpret CATIA drawings to determine design / material specs.
- Operate tools and equipment to assemble / disassemble parts per specifications.
- Inspect / test parts to confirm quality & operation.
- Interface with design / test engineers to verify technical data and review final assembly.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate training (driver’s license, large equipment license, machinist, coordinate measuring machine, etc.)
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in science/engineering/automotive preferred or equivalent experience
Minimum Experience:
- 5 years Research and Development Laboratory Testing preferred

Working Conditions
- This role is based on-site and 40% of the job takes place in the office, 50% in the lab and 10% in meetings. Occasional travel may be required to benchmark other labs, qualify other test labs, factory support, and support new equipment evaluations and commissioning. Overtime can be significant (10 hrs/week) during times of peak testing.
- Maintains professional conduct and follows all departmental, safety department, and company policies, procedures, and rules.
