Description

The Semmes Murphey Clinic is looking to hire a Referral Coordinator. Referral Coordinators are often the first point of contact for patients and outside providers, making this role essential in creating a positive first impression and setting the tone for the care they receive at Semmes Murphey. In this position, you will examine incoming referrals and connect patients with the most appropriate provider. This role also offers the opportunity to expand your vocabulary and working knowledge of the subspecialties in neurosurgery, neurology, spine care, and pain management.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Review incoming referral requests in a timely manner and schedule appointments when possible
  • Triage referral requests that need more specific advice from clinical staff; identify emergent or urgent calls/referrals
  • Make calls to patients to obtain additional insurance information and notify patient if their insurance is not accepted or eligible
  • Maintain current knowledge of provider criteria, insurance carriers, and clinical staff
  • Provide referring physician offices with professional communication relative to the status of their referral requests

Requirements

We are searching for a candidate who:

  • is able to communicate effectively, both oral and written, with excellent listening skills and the ability to speak clearly
  • is self-motivated and has good time management with the ability to manage workflow and prioritize demands
  • has excellent interpersonal skills and can manage difficult or emotional patient situations
  • will provide excellent customer service while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the healthcare field, as well as heavy telephone usage and strong customer service experience/focus. Familiarity with healthcare privacy laws is preferred, and bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Internet software, electronic medical records and practice management software. Organizational skills with attention to detail is required.
