Job Description

The Personal Trainer plans and executes personal and group training sessions for users of the Park District's Fitness Facility. 

SUPERVISION

Immediate Supervisor: Recreation Supervisor - Fitness

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Administers and evaluates client health history questionnaires and physiological data to develop individual exercise programs based on results from the client's assessments and stated goals and needs.
  • Keeps organized records of each clients training sessions and makes them available to the park district.
  • Is available to schedule clients during Lakeview Fitness working hours (M-F 5:30am-9pm, Sat 7am-6pm, Sun 7am-3pm).
  • Is present at least 10 minutes prior to the start of each training session and enforces proper check in procedures at the Sullivan Community Center front desk.
  • Monitors clients' exercise programs and makes adjustments/improvements as needed.
  • Keeps an open line of communication with their Supervisor on the progress of the client's program and any obstacles as they arise.
  • Leads equipment orientations for new members.
  • Ensures client's adherence to safety and injury prevention policies and procedures; prepares accident reports as required.
  • Check supplies and equipment for wear and tear and advises if supplies or equipment need repair or replacement.
  • Demonstrates leadership as a health and wellness professional.
  • Demonstrates a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality and genuine awareness.
  • Follows all safety guidelines while using park district facilities.
  • Is available to teach group training classes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 40 pounds or heavier.
  • Reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly.
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Employee must maintain a positive working relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Employee must work effectively with all customers maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor.
  • Employee must maintain confidentiality on sensitive subjects and customer information.
  • Employee must have ability to deal with clients and staff under stressful situations.
PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Lifting is required, 40 to 100 lbs.
  • Walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling will be required frequently.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Employee must park in exposed parking lot with potential of walking ¼ mile.
  • Employee work area is indoors, in a smoke free, open office environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting.
  • Employee work area is occasionally loud.
  • Essential functions of the position require frequent physical activity and lifting.

  • Employee must show knowledge of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and wellness information.
