Job Description

 

The US West Water Market growth is a critical component of GHD’s overall growth strategy in Americas. US West Region is looking to bring onboard a motivated Business Group Leader (BGL) to lead all aspects of the expansion of GHDs Integrated Water Management (IWM) practice throughout the region.

IWM business encompasses water resources planning and engineering, water system analysis, modelling and design, stormwater management and mitigation, evaluation of medium to large-scale watersheds comprised of both hard and soft landscapes, evaluation of gravity and pressure pipe networks, water system resiliency studies, and a familiarity with related disciplines such as aquatic ecology, toxicology, and hydrogeology.  The group also includes a dams and levees team, focused on dam safety inspections, geotechnical services, hydropower, and emergency action plans. 

As BGL, you will provide leadership for pursuits of projects for the public and private sectors. You will also provide technical leadership for the delivery of these projects for our clients throughout the West. This position will work from any of our offices in California.

Responsibilities

Strategy and Business Planning

 

  • Strategic business planning and budgeting for the IWM Practice

  • Participate in the development and execution of the growth strategy for the US West and US Water Market.

  • Develop and manage annual tactical plans aligned with the overall strategic plan for the region/country. 

     

 

Winning Work

 

  • Build and foster effective relationships with key clients

  • Lead business development, sales and marketing, for IWM practice in the West Region of the U.S.

  • Participate in visibility activities including conferences

  • Seamlessly collaborate with leadership and resources across GHD to bring solutions to local clients

  • Approval of job/scope of work packages, budgets, and progress in accordance with GHD LoA

     

 

Operations

 

  • Accountability for the operational performance of US West IWM Business Group

    • Provide support to Operations Manager and Finance Manager with performance metrics including UT, chargeable effort and variances 

  • Work closely with Region Market Leaders and other BGs to forecast market and work type trends and needs, in order to plan for re-training, recruitment or technology gaps

  • Accountable for resource forecasting and monitoring

  • Liaising with Talent Acquisition and manage the recruitment process and pipeline

  • To identify, monitor, manage and mitigate risks within the BG, including ensuring Limits of Authority are being adhered to

 

Project Delivery:

 

  • Leading best practice project delivery, making key technical contributions to projects and coordinating the work of team members to deliver creative solutions

  • Embrace established project management best practices and advocate for the adoption of standard methodologies within your sphere of influence at GHD

  • Direct the project teams, administering contractual aspects of the project, and have a client facing role

  • Work with project directors, project managers and project teams to improve job delivery skills within Business Group

  • Direct pricing, scoping and win strategies for amendments and follow-on work 

  • Accountable for Business Group’s resource management including allocation of people to projects in agreement with the Project Manager

  • Ensure adherence to GHD’s QA/QC plans including meeting established Quality KPIs

     

 

People:

 

  • Purpose led communications to the Business Group to inspire the team and enhance employee experience (EX)

  • Develop and mentor senior leadership within the Business Group

  • Collaborate with and mentor our Young Professionals to provide experience and exposure to a wide variety of IWM projects

  • Accountable for implementing quarterly check-ins in the Business Group including conducting the check-ins for direct reports

  • Collaborate with Market Leaders, Service Line Leaders and Project Managers within and outside the Region on work sharing and business development

  • Embrace the “One GHD” philosophy by collaborating with IWM teams worldwide to share capabilities and project opportunities

  • Being accountable for the people management of the group including leading, inspiring and mentoring your team

  • Review and normalize performance reviews and salary adjustments for the BG

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff
  • Strong business development, capture planning, and marketing skills
  • Exceptional track record in client development and project execution on IWM and water resources projects. Demonstrated technical expertise in water resources planning, design and/or implementation
  • Strong relationship leadership skills and a real passion for developing people within GHD
  • Flexible and able to meet challenging deadlines
  • A self-starter with sound judgment and decisiveness
  • A standout colleague with a strong client focus
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
  • Proven supervisory experience in mentoring junior and senior engineers and technologists
  • Experience and/or formal training with project management best practices

Salary Range $65,000-$275,000
