Job Summary: The Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment. This role goes beyond reactive repair to focus on preventive, predictive, and root-cause-based maintenance practices that drive long-term equipment uptime, safety, and asset life.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical professional who combines strong technical skills with structured problem-solving, documentation discipline, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
We have a night shift position available 10:00pm – 8:00 Monday through Wednesday & 8:00pm - 6:00am Thursday.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Reliability & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems on conventional and CNC machine tools, including hydraulic, pneumatic, drive, and motion components
- Diagnose failures using structured troubleshooting methods, not trial-and-error
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring or chronic equipment issues and implement permanent corrective actions
- Validate repairs through proper testing and follow-up to ensure long-term effectiveness
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM) tasks per documented procedures and schedules
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or improvement opportunities in PM plans and recommend changes
- Support predictive maintenance activities (vibration, temperature, lubrication condition, visual standards) as applicable
- Ensure equipment is returned to operation in a safe, repeatable, and maintainable condition
Continuous Improvement & Documentation
- Accurately document work performed, parts used, findings, and corrective actions in the CMMS
- Provide input on equipment history, repeat failures, and improvement opportunities
- Support reliability initiatives such as precision maintenance, lubrication standards, mechanical alignment, and error-proofing
- Participate in reliability, safety, and improvement projects as assigned
Fabrication & Mechanical Work
- Fabricate, modify, and repair mechanical components and tooling as required
- Perform basic welding, cutting, and fitting using approved procedures
- Support installation, relocation, and upgrade of equipment and facility assets
Safety & Standards
- Follow all safety policies, LOTO procedures, and equipment standards
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment risks, and improvement opportunities
- Maintain high workmanship standards and leave equipment cleaner and safer than found
Qualifications:
Required
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including:
o Bearings, shafts, gearing, couplings
o Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
o Mechanical drives and motion systems - Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
- Working knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies and failure modes
- Comfortable working in a CMMS-driven maintenance environment
- High school diploma or GED required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Preferred
- Industrial Mechanic Certification, Millwright Certification, or equivalent technical training
- 3–5+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance
- Experience with:
o Root cause analysis techniques (5 Whys, Fishbone, fault tree, etc.)
o Reliability or continuous improvement programs
o CNC machine maintenance - Strong written communication skills for documentation and reporting work
- Technical degree, apprenticeship, or certification strongly preferred
Physical Demands:
- Full-time; 40 hours per week with occasional overtime
- Willingness to work varied shifts as business needs dictate
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
- Must have close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception suitable for mechanical work
