TITLE: Elementary Lunchroom/Recess Supervisor


 


LOCATION: Leal Elementary School


 


SUPERVISOR: Principal or Assistant Principal


 


SUPERVISES: Students


 


JOB SUMMARY: Supervise the lunchroom and playground effectively to create a safe and pleasant environment for staff and students.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.



  • Maintain discipline by enforcing safety rules when students are in the lunchroom, playground, and activity room

  • Assist younger students with opening cartons, wrappers, etc, when they are unable to independently do so

  • Be aware of situations arising in the lunchroom or on the playground to defuse them before a situation gets out of control

  • Exercise a fair but consistent manner when interacting with students

  • Maintain a good relationship with teachers by keeping them informed about problems or situations involving their students

  • Practice proper guidelines and protocols per assigned building

  • Actively supervise students; move throughout the work area as needed, and perform tasks that involve consistent mobility. Candidates must be able to walk, bend, reach, and engage in physical activity regularly to successfully fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor


QUALIFICATIONS:  


 


EDUCATION



  • High School diploma or equivalent


EXPERIENCE



  • Previous experience working with children preferred 

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate and interact with children and adults appropriately

  • Ability to follow simple instructions, orally or written


PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Recreation background

  • Knowledge of peer mediation and conflict resolution techniques and ability to apply them to lunch and playground situations

  • Knowledge of First Aid


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • This is a position not within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.

  • This is not an exempt position.

  • Student contact days, 10:45am - 1:00pm (2 hours, 15 minutes)

  • Pay Rate is $18.10/hour
