Job Summary: 

The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator is responsible for holding the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist in Charge title, in accordance with Article VII of the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy Regulations.  Responsible for the coordination and direction of all areas of the Pharmacy to include administrative, technical, clerical, and personnel aspects of the department.  Responsible for the efficient operation of the Pharmacy Department and providing of quality service for patients and staff.  This position requires extensive contact and collaboration with Administration, medical staff, nursing service, and non hospital personnel.  Responsible for ensuring fiscally responsible ordering of pharmaceuticals and supplies in coordination with hospital group purchasing organization.  Must ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations governing pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization's established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.    Demonstrates knowledge and sensitivity to cultural and religious beliefs of patients, visitors and staff.  Maintains all department and hospital records and enters accurate information into the electronic health record.  Fulfills professional responsibility in dispensing, procurement, control, and consultation involved with pharmaceuticals.  The Pharmacist must possess and utilize a knowledge base in medication for children (pediatric), adolescent, and geriatric patients to evaluate orders, make recommendations for therapy and manage therapy through protocols.  Supervises and directs support personnel.  Oversight and responsibility for antibiotic stewardship program.  Performs other duties as assigned.

• Possesses strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and applies those independently to department operations resulting in compliant operations upon supervisor review.


• Consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding department operations resulting in few complaints from these disciplines.


• Communicates routinely with hospital leadership concerning policy recommendations and suggested courses of action pertinent to the efficient operation of assigned departments as demonstrated by notation in Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee minutes.


• Implements new policies and disseminates pertinent information following leadership directives in the timeframes requested.


• Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities resulting in few major medication errors.


• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.


• Develops and utilizes department practices consistently in accordance with USP795, USP797, and USP800 resulting in few to no findings by a surveying agency.


• Orients new employees to ensure competence and maintains records of new hire competency check offs.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Skills        

            Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited            school of Pharmacy required.

 

Work Experience:    

            Hospital pharmacy preferred.

                                   

            Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

 

• Registration with the Mississippi State of Board of Pharmacy.

• Current Controlled Substance Registration in the State of Mississippi by the MS State Board of Pharmacy.
