General Summary of the Position: Dyslexia Therapist


The Elementary Catholic School Dyslexia Therapist plays a vital role in supporting students who require additional instruction to achieve grade-level proficiency in reading. Rooted in the mission of Catholic education, the Dyslexia Therapist (CALT) provides specialized, research-based dyslexia intervention to students identified with dyslexia or related disorders. This position is responsible for delivering structured, multisensory instruction aligned with the Take Flight dyslexia therapy program, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success. The Dyslexia Therapist plays a key role in fostering student confidence, academic growth, and independence in reading and written language while being formed in faith and virtue.  


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position 



  • Support the Catholic identity and mission of the school by modeling Gospel values and incorporating faith into daily interactions with students and staff. 



  • Provide direct, individualized or small-group dyslexia therapy using the Take Flight program with fidelity.  



  • Plan, prepare, and deliver structured, sequential, multisensory lessons tailored to student needs.  



  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, lesson plans, and therapy sessions.  



  • Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and adjust instruction based on student performance data.  



  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, learning specialists, and administrators to support student achievement.  



  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for support.  



  • Participate in student support (MTSS) meetings and contribute to the development of academic intervention plans. 



  • Coordinate or assist with benchmark testing and school-wide assessments related to reading achievement. 



  • Support identification and screening processes for students suspected of dyslexia, as needed.  



  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.  



  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to dyslexia and literacy instruction. 



  • Support and participate in school-wide events and liturgies as an active member of the Catholic school community. 


 


Position Requirements


 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 



  • Strong knowledge of dyslexia characteristics and evidence-based intervention practices.  



  • Deep understanding of structured literacy and multisensory instructional approaches.  



  • Expertise in implementing the Take Flight dyslexia therapy program.  



  • Ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instruction.  



  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  



  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.  



  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.  



  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting diverse learners.  



  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. 


 


Education and Experience: 



  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, reading, special education, or related field preferred.  



  • Current certification as a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) or similar required.  



  • Successful completion of Take Flight training preferred.  



  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing dyslexia intervention preferred.  



  • Valid teaching certification; certification in elementary education or reading preferred. 


 


Special Requirements: 



  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend events as needed. 



  • Understanding of Catholic teachings. 


 


 


Physical Requirements Specific to the Job: 



  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. 



  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
