Packaging Supervisor
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Status: Full time, Permanent
Reports to: Assistant Manager, Manufacturing
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10 hours
The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily packaging operations to ensure products are packaged safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality, regulatory, and production requirements. This role leads packaging employees, manages workflow, supports continuous improvement, and collaborates cross‑functionally to achieve operational and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day‑to‑day packaging operations to ensure production targets, quality standards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved.
- Plan, organize, and prioritize packaging activities by scheduling and assigning staff, monitoring workflow, resolving issues, and reporting shift results.
- Ensure all packaged products meet established quality, safety, and regulatory standards, including SOPs and GMP requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate packaging lines and workstations to optimize efficiency, productivity, and equipment utilization.
- Ensure the accurate flow, control, and reconciliation of packaging materials, raw materials, inventory, and compile, review, and submit accurate production and packaging records in a timely manner.
- Lead, train, and coach packaging employees to ensure proper procedures, safety practices, and quality requirements are consistently followed.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new packaging team members.
- Maintain employee performance through coaching, performance management, progressive discipline, and documentation, escalating to the Manager as required.
- Address employee issues and conflicts promptly while fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Collaborate with R&D during trials and new product introductions to support packaging feasibility and process improvements.
- Work closely with Planning, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, and other department leaders to ensure seamless operations and business alignment.
- Promote and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance packaging efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment.
- Post‑secondary education or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Strong leadership ability with demonstrated experience motivating, training, and developing teams.
- Proven problem‑solving skills and the ability to manage change in a fast‑paced production setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High sense of urgency and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ERP systems, preferably Microsoft D365.
- Knowledge of SOPs, GMPs, and regulatory requirements under the Cannabis Act (or regulated manufacturing environments).
