Job Description

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the housekeeping department in a long-term care facility. This role ensures a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors, in compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regulations and federal guidelines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily housekeeping operations
  • Assign duties and inspect work of housekeeping staff
  • Ensure compliance with infection control standards, OSHA, and CDC guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness of resident rooms, common areas, and administrative spaces
  • Train, schedule, and evaluate housekeeping personnel
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; order as needed
  • Respond promptly to resident, family, and staff concerns or requests
  • Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials and waste
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) programs
  • Maintain documentation and records required by state and federal regulations

Regulatory Compliance (Illinois LTC Specific)

  • Follow IDPH sanitation and infection control standards
  • Ensure compliance with CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) housekeeping and environmental services requirements
  • Support facility readiness for inspections and surveys
  • Enforce safety standards consistent with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of housekeeping experience in healthcare or long-term care
  • Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of infection control practices in healthcare settings
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift (up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions
  • Frequent use of cleaning chemicals and equipment

Work Environment

  • Long-term care or skilled nursing facility
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and potential biohazards
  • Interaction with elderly and medically fragile residents

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with floor care (buffing, waxing, carpet cleaning)
  • Familiarity with electronic scheduling or maintenance systems
  • Strong attention to detail and infection prevention
