Job Description

Title:              Teacher Associate (Sp Ed)


Location:       High School


Required Qualifications:



  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. Successful completion of physical, criminal background and child abuse registry check, and pre-work screening at time of hire.

  3. Ability to obtain required training, including but not limited to the following: Mandatory Reporter, Right to Know, Bloodborne Pathogens, Certification to Administer Medication to students, Chapter 103: Seclusion & Restraint, Suicide Prevention/Postvention.

  4. Ability to work with all students with diverse needs.


Reports to: Building Principal


Performance Responsibilities:



  1. Ability to work with students individually or in small groups

  2. Assists in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to individual needs of students

  3. Assists with physical or behavioral needs of individual students.

  4. Uses standard universal health precautions.

  5. Practices being a positive motivator and able to develop working rapport with the student.

  6. Relates to and interacts with students using positive reinforcement and effective communication.

  7. Communicates effectively with all staff.

  8. Follows IEP and teacher’s directives.

  9. Practices patience and growth mindset

  10. Maintains confidentiality and student privacy by only discussing student needs with staff that have an educational need to know the information.

  11. Implements daily activities

  12. Ensures the health and safety of the student at the building, on the outdoor play areas and on field trips.

  13. Is knowledgeable about program policies and procedures.

  14. Records behavioral incidents (time out, problem reports, accident reports, etc).

  15. Keeps all assigned paperwork up-to-date and submits in a timely manner (such as Medicaid, student academic or behavioral data)

  16. Assists in the preparation, serving, and clean up of breakfast, lunch and snacks as needed.

  17. Attends required staff meetings.

  18. Assumes duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervising Teacher or Principal.
